The Embassy assists families with the dignified repatriation of Haitian nationals to Haiti.

Body Repatriation

The Embassy of Haiti in London supports bereaved families with the dignified repatriation of Haitian nationals who have passed away in the United Kingdom or Ireland. Our Consular Section issues the laissez-passer mortuaire required for the transport of the remains to Haiti.

Required Documents

  • Death Certificate: Original certificate issued by the local UK or Irish authorities.
  • Embalming Certificate: Issued by a licensed funeral director.
  • Non-Contagious Disease Certificate: Confirming the cause of death is not communicable.
  • Identification: Copy of the deceased's Haitian passport, CIN, or birth certificate.
  • Next of Kin Authorisation: Signed letter from the closest relative authorising the repatriation.
  • Transit Permit: Burial or transit permit issued by the local authorities.
  • Coffin Sealing Certificate: Confirming the coffin has been sealed in accordance with international standards.

Family / Applicant Information

  • Identification: Copy of a valid ID for the family member submitting the request.
  • Contact Details: Full address and telephone number of the next of kin in Haiti.
  • Receiving Funeral Home: Name and contact of the funeral home in Haiti receiving the remains.

Processing Time

Repatriation files are treated as a priority and the laissez-passer mortuaire is generally issued within 24 to 48 hours once all documents are complete.
